Bill Sizemore: Oregon Douchebag

Dear Bill Sizemore,

I have recently learned of your ballot measure 58 that would force Oregon schools to scrap bilingual education programs in favor of a one size fits all immersion program (one year only of immersion for ESL students entering school in kindergarten through 4th grade; 1.5 years of immersion for students entering school in 5th through 8th grades; and two years for students entering school in high school.)

I don't believe that this plan takes into account the differences between students and how a students background might affect his abilities. I do however believe that you are a douchebag. Do you perhaps have a degree in education that helped you determine the best way to educate foreign language students? Years of study that lead you to determine that this plan of yours is for some reason better that the one that is currently in place in most states including Oregon? Do you have any reason to believe that you are in any way more qualified to design education plans for foreign language students than the education experts specializing in this field?

What's that you say? You don't have a degree in education? Oh, you received a bachelor's degree in Theology from Portland Bible College. I don't think that qualifies you to do anything at all. Perhaps if you had studied a useful subject you would have understood that this plan of yours will actually cost the state more money and not save money as you continue to insist.

If bookkeeping's not your bag, you could have instead gone for some straightforward research before penning this educational sabotage. You might have researched the similar law that was passed in Arizona that cost the state $2,740 extra per ESL student. Had you looked into that law, you would have also learned that the law has not had any impact on reducing drop out rates for ESL students and has not improved standardized tests for ESL students.

In conclusion, you're a fucking douchebag. Causing vast amounts of damage to Oregon tax law isn't enough for you you fucking asshole? You have to now directly fuck up our schools? Fuck you you piece of shit. You've caused enough damage to our state. Please never write another ballot measure again for the rest of your life. Prick.

Sincerely,
Phillip Brockhaus

P.S. Vote No on Measure 58.

It must be nice to be a Red Bull girl...
All you have to do is hang out downtown all day with other almost hot

Thanks redbull girls, I really needed the caffeine.

I have chills

Ok - a very very small number of movie trailers actually make me excited when I watch them; it's different from just 'wanting' to see the movie... It's almost like a feeling that the movie trailer itself is somehow meaningful. I'm left with a sense that by having watched the trailer, I am now a part of something important.

I realize that this may make me sound crazy...

The trailers that I have experienced this with were the first Star Wars Episode I trailer I saw; the first Transformers trailers I saw; and just a little bit with the trailers for the both of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies. (I'm a huge Batman fan and I think these two recent Batman movies are the greatest thing to happen to the franchise, but the trailers didn't quite strike me the same way as the Transformers trailer.)

The reason I mention this: I just came across this trailer on Latino Review.
http://latinoreview.com/news/terminator-salvation-teaser-trailer-5011

Wow. This is a must see movie. I mean, I suppose that goes without saying for just about any American male around my age, but wow....

That's all. Oh - PS - Coming back to Oregon soon. See everyone soon.

New online photoediting tool - Aviary -

I just did a 5 minute test with the new online photo-editing tool that Adobe is scared of - Aviary -

They are in beta right now, and I have some invites for friends - gmail me if interested. It looks far far better than Adobe's online crippled apps.... They are a joke really. This thing might not quite match thick-client photoshop, but it looks like it will do a better job than any of the other online solutions by far....

(Oh - Used GIMP the other day for the first time - was at work and I had to make a button with my work laptop. I don't yet have a full opinion of it - I'm pretty sure my biggest problem with it was that it was NOT photoshop - and by that I mean that the navigation was different and the tools worked differently and it was hard to get around in just because I'm familiar with a different way of doing things. I'll have to use it some more to really figure out how I feel about it - I'm guessing that my conclusion will be that it's not as good as photoshop, but I'm willing to keep an open mind for now. Oh - and as far as GIMP vs. Aviary - tough call considering how little experience I have with either of them, but for now, I may be leaning towards Aviary - we'll revisit this in a few weeks.)

New video for you to watch....

Ok - The Original that many of you have seen....

I work here

I work here -
They say it's the second largest office building in the world. (The biggest being the pentagon)

The building is a quarter of a mile long. In other words, it would take Tree something like 14 seconds to drive his MR2 from one end to the other. His bike could probably do it a little faster.

The building has 2 cafeterias, a little store, a dry cleaners, a starbucks, a UPS shipping center, and about 10,000 people.

It's big.

Outbound Roadtrip day 3 part 2

Fuck. The car broke down in Nebraska near Lincoln. I'm sooooo glad I joined AAA before I left...

I'm at a 24hour garage right now waiting for them to look at it and see if they can figure out what's wrong. I will probably spend the night in Lincoln and then not make Ohio in time.

I made it only 343 miles today. It's 5:30pm local time - if they get it fixed in the next couple of hours I might still have a chance.

Outbound Roadtrip day 3 part 1

Stayed at a little motel called "Sleep for Le$$" (not kidding) in Sidney Nebraska last night.

I've uploaded some pictures, but I realized that I'm going to have to put them on flikr first as blogger doesn't let you do much with them. I'll fix that soon.

Anyway - this is the first post from my laptop - all the others have been from the iPhone.

More later - I need to go help Jenn now

outbound trip day 2 part 2 - utah rest areas suck ballz

Utah could learn something from Idaho. Pictures to follow.

outbound trip day 2 part 1 - blogging at 80 mph

just crossed into Utah at 12:06pm local time, 11:06am pacific.

Outbound trip day 1 part 5 - Twin Falls Idaho

Well, I made it to Idaho. Hotel does not have wifi, so the pods will have to wait for a day or two.

Time for sleep. More to come.

As with everything so far, posted from my iphone.

outbound trip day 1 part 4

Quick stop in Boise for more gas. $3.159 per gallon.

outbound trip day 1 part 3 - Ontario Oregon

In a bar in Ontario for a sandwich and a beer trying to decide if I should:
A. Get a hotel here
B. Drive one hour to Boise
C. Drive three hours to Twin Falls

It's 8:10 pacific / 9:10 local and I'm pretty tired, but I want to get a few more miles behind me before I call it a night. I guess I'll eat my sandwich and see how I feel then.

outbound trip day 1 part 2

didn't make it very far; I stopped in the Dalles for a full tank of gas, some Burgerville, and some tire chains. On my way now. Pics later.

outbound roadtrip day 1 part 1

left the house much much later than I wanted too - didn't get out if there until after noon.
I'm currently at a rest stop near the Dalles with rattlesnakes and tame squirrels. Will upload pictures tonight if I find some free wifi.
--------------------------------------
Here are a couple of pics. will move them to flikr and get them oriented correctly later.

I-have-a-hangover-now.

Shit - I quit drinking for the better part of six months or so and a lot of good came of it... But last night, being one of my last nights here in Oregon for a while, Mathea and I went out until closing time and drank Jager and Rumpleminz....

I have my first hangover in at least 6 months. I don't like it.

Oh well. Cheers everyone. See you in a few months....
